Cable management is popularly thought of as just something you do to make your PC look “nicer and cleaner.” There are, however, some really good benefits to making sure your cords are tidied up.
1. Better Airflow
Believe it or not, having good cable management can actually lead to slightly better overall temps. When cables aren’t in the way of airflow it can improve cooling in your PC. If possible, keep them away from fans or openings that air would go usually through and make sure all those cables are neatly tucked out of the way.
2. Protection During Transport
If you’re like me and ship/deliver PCs, proper cable management can help hold everything together during transport. The last thing you want is all your cables falling out and turning into a mess by the time it arrives at its destination.
This one is pretty obvious but good cable management makes your PC look neat and clean. Most PC parts nowadays come with plastic/velcro cable ties. Use them, don’t throw them away. Take advantage of those cable management slots on your PC and make sure your cables are as tidied up as possible.
If you have the budget for it, invest in a good set of sleeved cables. Not only do they make your themed-build look attractive, they help a lot with cable management due to their stiffness and once you install them, they’ll most likely stay there. CableMod is the well-known brand, but there are others online that you can find cheaper.
